Featuring 18 songs from a variety of artists playing across the whole festival, it begins as a pleasant Dr Jekyll-type character before gradually transforming into a brutal Mr Hyde.

The CD will be available from the merch stand at the festival for the bargainous sum of £5. Also inside one CD sleeve will be a Willy Wonka-esque ‘Golden Ticket’ that will allow the winner free entry to next year’s festival!

The Flapper, Birmingham http://www.thecapeofgoodhope.co.uk/the-flapper-w-arcane-roots/ http://www.thecapeofgoodhope.co.uk/the-flapper-w-arcane-roots/#comments Sun, 17 Apr 2011 20:00:16 +0000 Tom http://www.thecapeofgoodhope.co.uk/?p=157 ARCANE ROOTS are a very new London based 3 piece who came together in 2009 and are now already set to release their quite incredible debut mini album ‘Left Fire’. Influenced by the likes of Fall of Troy, Foals, Refused and At the Drive-In/The Mars Volta this stunning record manages to be ambitious and pop, heavy and epic, comfortingly familiar and something completely unique – fresh in equal measure and all at the same time.

Surrey Trio with an ear for melody and appetite for destruction…They look set for a big 2011” [Kerrang!]

“Arcane Roots sound so fresh, special, and deliciously unpredictable. Wherever they go next… It’s sure to be a fascinating listen.” [Rocksound] 8/10

“Arcane Roots are all about the musical muscle, blending their own brand of At The Drive-In grit with massive Biffy hooks…The production of their latest tunes is ruddy huge…” [Total Guitar]

“Arcane Roots have stumbled onto the perfect combination of pop and rock to create a truly awesome sound…the band have done well to catch their musical power on record, having said this it is live where the band really show their true potential, with a blistering show that leaves you mesmerized and begging for more.” [Alter The Press!]

Support comes from The Cape Of Good Hope

Bromsgrove’s The Cape Of Good Hope have managed to pull off the trick all bands with a penchant for spazzy American influenced post-hardcore should in order to rise above an otherwise arty mire of noise; they infuse their eclectic and expansive music with melody at every turn. In the the last minute of ’Peepshows And Discos’ this is to such an extent it’s almost impossible not to imagine a baying crowd of thousands being sent into rapture by the looped vocal refrain. However, with jarring guitars, complex rhythms, fucked up time signatures, and the employment of a mirage of different musical styles, they’re still dangerous as hell. Welcome them into your heart.

Opening we have ROMANS

Question: What do you get if you take four lads from the arsehole of nowhere, and lock them inside a factory with a set of instruments?
Answer: Romans.
Likened by Kerrang! Unsigned’s Alex Baker to “a roundhouse kick to the face”, the Kidderminster four-piece have become renowned for their powerful brand of Rock ‘n’ Roll, which takes influences from everything good about heavy music over the last 30 years, and entwines it with a modern outlook to provide something as refreshing as it is punishing.
Don’t be fooled though, Romans have more to them than heart-pounding drums and relentless guitar riffs; their ability to throw unforgettable melodies into the mix has seen their songs – as well as their name – remain firmly etched in the minds of those that have seen them.
Their debut EP, ‘Black Ties’ exhibits the band’s sound as captured by Chris Coulter of Stakeout Studios (Arcane Roots, We Are The Ocean, The Ghost of a Thousand), and with a release date set for mid-June, the band are soon to be taking over speakers and live venues across the country.
Advice? Join the Roman Army now, or be crushed in its’ wake.

THREE TRAPPED TIGERS

Three Trapped Tigers are an instrumental noisenik outfit from London who exhibit the precision of electronica, the raw intensity of rock music and the schizophrenic spontaneity of their electro-improv past. Not easily classifiable, but with influences ranging from Aphex Twin and Squarepusher to Lightning Bolt and Battles. The music veers wildly from noisy guitars to contemplative synths, frantic beats to amb…ient noise.

NEW ALBUM OUT IN MAY….

TALL SHIPS

Wielding guitars, samplers, synths, bass, drums and so many macho moves you don’t know where to look, Tall Ships are going to make you dance. Tall Ships fuse the energy and stylings of Battles and Foals with influences as wide ranging as Why?, Prince and Explosions In The Sky to form a dynamic musical marvel, full of excitement and intricacies.
As such, the debut, self-titled EP (which sold out on pre-orders alone) was released in screen printed, hand packaged cardboard sleeves, individually numbered and limited to just 250 copies. With a second, equally DIY pressing now on its way, the fact that these CDs are selling so quickly is testament to the excitement rapidly building around the three-piece.

PEACE

Peace’s sound takes a mixture of different influences fusing lots of reverberating guitar lines, pounding drums and danceable bass. My first impression was Real Estate with a punk edge and cool bass groove, kind of likeCymbal Eats Guitar but better. There was clear Math/Post-rock influences but mixed with chilled out indie pop floppy hairdos and skinny jeans. Overall a very hip band that played a solid set with an interesting sound, totally one to watch. Fans of Tubelord, Tallships, etc. will love Peace.”
